Cloud9's second deal in 92 days brings Chpter's 4,500-business commerce base into banking, but its announcement publishes no FX rate, fee or delivery time.

Cloud9 has bought conversational-commerce platform Chpter, its second acquisition in exactly 92 days, to connect a 4,500-business customer base with banking and cross-border payments.
The 5 August announcement says Chpter has served more than 4,500 businesses and processed over one million transactions. Cloud9 has closed Chpter's standalone platform and is moving its commerce tools into Cloud9 Business Banking.
For a Kenyan importer paying a USD 10,000 supplier invoice, that is KES 1,295,000 at OnLink's live KES-to-USD sell rate of KES 129.50 per USD at 09:19 EAT on 6 August. Cloud9's announcement gives no FX rate, fee or delivery time, so the acquisition does not yet show whether that invoice becomes cheaper.
Chpter lets merchants manage customer conversations, sales and payments across WhatsApp and social channels. Cloud9 says the integrated platform will pair those tools with multi-currency accounts, international payments and cross-border supplier payments.
That combination gives Cloud9 access to businesses at the point where a customer conversation becomes a sale. It also gives Chpter users a migration rather than a choice: the standalone service has already closed. The practical test is whether their customer history and payment workflows move across intact.
For importers, the omitted numbers matter more than the product list. A business can compare the new route only after Cloud9 publishes the rate used for conversion, the total fee and the promised delivery time. OnLink's guide to paying overseas suppliers from Kenya sets out the rate, fees and recipient amount to check before a payment is sent.
Cloud9 founder Tesh Mbaabu announced the Mtickets acquisition on 5 May. The Chpter deal followed on 5 August: 92 days later. Ticketing placed Cloud9 near event payments; Chpter places it inside merchant sales conversations.
Cloud9's next measurable step is not another feature list, but a published cost and delivery standard for the 4,500-business base it has just acquired.
